KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party has condemned the incident of the Maoist combatants leaving the cantonments in Kapilvastu district, saying that the act violated the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
It also blamed UNMIN for failing to live up to its mandate by letting the combatants to come out from the cantonment.
“The incident has greatly harmed the peace and constitution writing process,” said NC parliamentary party (PP) spokesperson Nabindra Raj Joshi after the PP meeting at Singha Durbar.
“The incident aims at spreading terror and shows that the Maoists are not serious to the peace process,” Joshi further said.
The PP has also demanded that the wayward combatants be punished.
The PP also criticized UNMIN for failing to prevent the incident. “UNMIN could not live up to its mandate,” Joshi said.
The PP also asked the government and the Maoists to be serious to the incident.
