Chaudhary appointed NSC member Purnima, Manaslu into Bahundanda Cup quarters

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The cabinet has approved Hari Babu Chaudhary as the member of National Sports Council (NSC) on Wednesday. The cabinet meeting held on Wednesday accepted Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Tiwari Nepali´s proposal to appoint Chaudhary as the NSC member.
Minister Tiwari confirmed that Chaudhary would be promoted to the post of member-secretary shortly. He further said all vacant posts would be filled soon.
Chaudhary is the first member appointed for the NSC board after Jeevan Ram Shrestha resigned from the post some two months ago. Minister Tiwari appointed Youth and Sports Ministry joint secretary Vishnu Lamsal as the care taker member secretary of NSC one month ago.
Hari Babu Chaudhary is ex-DIG of Nepal Police.
Purnima, Manaslu into Bahundanda Cup quarters
LAMJUNG, Aug 26: Purnima Youth Club, Nagdi, and Mount Manaslu Club, Dhakai, secured berth for the quarterfinal in the Bahundanda Cup Men´s Football Tournament being held at Bahundanda, Lamjung.
Purnima, the runner up of the previous edition, defeated Indreni Club, Nayagaun, 3-2. Indreni took an early lead in the ninth minute through Suraj Shrestha. But ten minutes later Maut Prasad Gurung leveled the match. Again, two minutes before interval Bijay BK scored for Purnima to lead the match 2-1. Both the teams added one each in the second half of the match.
In another match of the day, Mount Manaslu Club humiliated the second team of the host Young Star ´B´ 4-1 to make it through last eight. With this loss, both the teams of the host crashed out of the tournament. Similarly, Moon Star Club defeated Raktakali Club 3-2 in the tie breaker after the regular match ended in the 1-1 stalemate.
In women´s category, the host team Young Star Club slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mount Manaslu Club.
Cricket referees off to Singapore
KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Three national cricket referees left for Singapore on Wednesday to conduct the role of referee in the ICC Word Cricket League Division Six tournament to be held there from August 27 to September 6.
The referees nominated by the International Cricket Council from Nepal are Buddi Bahadur Pradhan, Binay Kumar Jha and Sanjib Gurung. Pradhan has already worked as referee in the ICC tournament several times, while Jha and Gurung are assigned the task first time in the ICC tournament.
Meanwhile, Cricket Association of Nepal President Binay Raj Pandey bade them farewell on Wednesday.
