  Triveni clinch Bahundanda Cup

LAMJUNG, Aug 30: Triveni Club, Besisahar, clinched the title of Bahundanda Cup Football Tournament under men´s category on Sunday while Mount Manaslu Club lifted the women´s title.


Triveni crushed the defending champion Aadarsha Club, Sahaji with a 3-0 score in the final. The final between two neighboring team saw the weak defending line of Aadarsha. Taking this advantage, Triveni opened the account in the 22nd minute. Sijan Shrestha scored through a freekick strike from near the center of the ground after bouncing in the penalty box. Three minutes later Suresh Shrestha sent the ball past the net through a powerful shot from outside the box.

Aadarsha, on the other hand, missed few opportunities to bounce back. Similarly, Subash Gurung killed the match in the last minute of the second half. With this goal Subash registered nine goals in his account to bag the highest scorer award. Asir Gurung of Aadarsha Youth Club, Uttarkanya, was adjudged the best glovesman of the tournament. Both of them received a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each and trophy.

With the victory, Triveni won Rs 25,000 along with trophy while the runners up Aadarsha remained satisfied with cash prize of Rs 12,000. Moonstar Club, Tara Chowk, declared the fair team received cash prize of Rs 5,000.

In the women´s category, Mount Manaslu Club, Dhakai, beat Srijana Club, Thulibesi, 2-0. Roji Gurung and Tulsi Gurung scored the goals for the winning side in the first half of the match. Mount Manaslu bagged Rs 5,000 along with shield and Srijana was contended with Rs 2,500. Lalita Gurung of the host Young Star Club was declared the best player and Roji Gurung of the winner Mount Manaslu got the highest scorer award for scoring four goals.

Altogether, 26 teams including 18 in the men´s category and eight in the women´s category participated in the tournament organized by the Young Star Club.
