  ANFA trying for consensus

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The All Nepal Football Association´s (ANFA) effort to elect 22 of its members unopposed till late Sunday night failed to bear fruition after another 14 members refused to withdraw their nominations. Altogether 36 people had filed candidacy for the post.

ANFA spokesperson Lalit Krishna Shrestha said that every effort was being made to forge consensus. The top post including that of the President and eight vice presidents had already been elected unopposed. Earlier, Ganesh Thapa, the president and eight vice presidents - Lalit Krishna Shrestha, Mahesh Bista, Karma Tshering Sherpa, Narendra Shrestha, Kumar Jang Thapa, Kishor Rai, Bijay Narayan Manandhar and Sunil Kapali had been elected unopposed on September 6, the last day to file candidacy.

ANFA has also thrown its weight for the extension of the tenure of its members of the present working committee - Basanta Aryal, Deepak Khati, Govardansingh Samjhana, Pankaj Bikram Nembang, Mani Kunwar, Ganesh Bhattarai, Ganesh Chand, and Sunil Thapa.

Four representatives from football clubs - Dinesh Byanjankar from Chyasal, Chandra Kumar Maharjan from Bansbari, Madhu Sudhan Upadhyaya from Bansbari and Ramesh Rayamajhi from Navajyoti - are likely to get elected as members of the central working committee.

However, the ANFA sources have expressed confidence that it would forge consensus before the election scheduled for Monday morning. “Only two candidates - Sajib Bahadur Shahi of Gyan Bhairav and Prakash Pangeni of Nawalparasi - have refused to withdraw their candidacy, but we hope that they would agree to do so by tomorrow,” said ANFA sources.

If consensus is forged Mohammad Sami Ullah from Bara, Kiran Rai from Udayapur, Ratnakumar Shrestha from Tanahun, Bir Bahadur Khadka from Sindhupalchowk, Purushottam Adhikari from Sarlahi, Hari Prasad Shrestha from Rupandehi, Raju Shrestha from Chitwan and Prahlad Prasad Shah from Mahottari are likely to be elected from districts.
