KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Kantipur Chess Club, Machhindra Chess Club and Far-western Region clean swept the first round matches of the National Club Team Championship Rating Chess Tournament that began Wednesday at Patan Party Palace.
Nabin Tandukar, FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Uttam Raj Thapa and Rajan Chhetri of the Kantipur defeated Prajwal Rajopadhya, Umesh Saiju, Bhim Datta Pandey and Rajan Prajapati of Banke Chess Association 4-0 sets win over Banke.
Machhindra, comprising former Nepal Champion Surbir Lama, Rijendra Rajbhandari, Niraj Niraula and Shyam Shrestha to beat Kantipur Chess Team 4-0 sets downed Milan Rokka, Deepak Maharjan, Ramesh Bhandari and Mana Kumar Gurung.
Similarly, Takendra Pathak, Keshav Prasad Gautam, Dirgha Raj Joshi and Basanta Rawal from the Far-western Team beat Bhawani Limbu, Laxman Regmi, Mohansingh Pradhan of Bikash Bhawani Club 4-0.
Nepal Chess Club, Dolakha added 3.5-0.5 sets win against Patan Multiple Campus. Madhav Prasad Pradhan, Gyanendra Prasad Shrestha and Saurav Pradhhan emerged victorious for Dolakha, while Indra Kumar Basnet played a draw.
The ´A´ team of the host the Himalayan Chess Club with former Nepal champion Keshav Shrestha, Wilam Lal Shrestha won their matches, while Nepal champion Badrilal Nepali lost his against Raj Kishor Mahato of the Chetansil Samaj to satisfy with 3-1 set victory.
Likewise, Makhan Chess Club beat Kaski Chess Club 3-1 sets. Sajan Pandey, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha won their matches while Punyaman Bajracharya was held by Surendra Prasad Shrestha.
Similarly, the second team of the host, ´B´, recorded 3-1 set win over Lalitpur District Development Committee. Bijay J Shrestha of and Bikash Kuluju of the host won their matches while Prem Krishna Maharjan and Lawa Kumar Shrestha were bound to play a draw.
The Himalayan Chess Club ´A´ and ´B´, Machhindra Chess Club, Kantipur Chess Club, Far Western Chess Club and Pokhara Chess Club had 2 points each, while Patan Jaycees and Dharan Chess Club had to remain contented with one points apiece.
Earlier, member secretary of the national Sports Council, Nepa Chess Association President Rajesh Hari Joshi and HCC president Ram Kumar Thapa jointly inaugurated the tournament. The tournament is organized by Himalayan Chess Club.
