PM appeals for more Indian investment

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Thursday appealed the visiting Indian industrialists to invest in Nepal, promising them better investment climate in the country soon.

“The government will lay down all possible measures to protect and support the investors. I appeal you all to invest in Nepal without any doubt,” said the PM, addressing a delegation of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

The delegation, which is in the capital to discuss and explore out the opportunities for expanding Indian investments in Nepal, had met with the PM on Thursday. During the meeting, the CII team had expressed concerns over security situation and labor problems in Nepal. They also urged the government to improve investment climate in the country if it is serious towards attracting Indian investment.

PM Nepal apprised them of the recent changes in trade and industrial policies. He also informed them about the new security plan the government is implementing soon to improve law and order situation and industrial security.

The 18-member CII team led by AP Mull also held talks with the Nepali business community. During the business talks, the two sides discussed on the problems seen in bilateral trade and divulged on the prospects of collaboration in the sectors such as hydropower, tourism and education, among others.
