  Kathmandu UML defies party decision

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: Challenging the party´s top body´s decision to dissolve it, the Kathmandu district chapter of the CPN-UML has given continuity to its activities.

The Valley Coordination Committee of the party had earlier formed District Organization Committee by dissolving the district committee. A standing committee meeting of CPN-UML recently had endorsed the coordination committee´s decision. But the district committee has given continuity to its activities defying the decision to dissolve it. The district committee headed by Rameshwar Phuyal on Wednesday announced to organize its fifth district convention on December 19 and 20.

"The standing committee´s decision to endorse the coordination committee´s announcement to dissolve the elected Kathmandu district committee has saddened us," the district committee said in its statement on Wednesday.

The coordination committee which is close to party Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal took the decision to dissolve the district committee which is headed by Rameshwar Phuyal, who is close to KP Sharma Oli. Khanal and Oli have been engaged in trading words against each other in the recent days. Khanal defeated Oli in the election for the party chairmanship.
