KATHMANDU, Sept 17: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal assumed patronage of Nepal Veteran Athletes Committee on Thursday.

Madhu SJB Rana, the founder chairman of the committee offered the blazer of patron to the prime minister at a function organized at the prime minister´s residence, Baluwatar.




Assuming patronage, Prime Minister Nepal said society should acknowledge the contribution of players.


ANFA Academy in club football final

TANAHUN, Sept 17: Nirajan Malla scored a hat-trick to take ANFA Academy into the final of Club Level National Football Tournament organized by All Star Club in Aanbukhaireni on Thursday.

ANFA Academy thrashed Armed Police Force 3-1 on the semifinal match played at Gorakhkali Rubber Udyog ground. APF took an early lead as Top Bahadur Bista scored in the 25th minute. Academy team made a comeback in 39th minute.

Academy, the team preparing for AFC U-19 Championship, outplayed APF in the second half. Nirajan opened his goals tally in the first half. He scored second and third in 69th and 80th minute respectively.

Nepal Army and Himalayan Sherpa Club will battle in the second semifinal on Friday.


Signature Golf on Saturday

KATHMANDU, Sept 17: United Spirits Nepal Pvt Limited has announced an additional amateur golf tournament in the calendar of Nepali golf on Thursday. At a press conference the firm informed ´Signature Golf Challenge 2009´ will be played at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.



The tournament will be played in 18 holes, on a stableford format with ¾ handicap allowance. Organizers claim the participation of 100 golfers including men, women and senior golfers. Signature has been sponsoring amateur golf in Nepal for the last few years.

Gautam Mallik, the general manager of United Spirits, expressed his commitment to sponsor a minimum of two tournaments from this year to uplift the standard of amateur golf in Nepal.
