BMF Forms Team For Talks With Govt
  KATHMANDU, May 21: Broader Madhesi Front (BMF), an alliance of cross-party Madhesi lawmakers, has formed a twelve-member talks team to hold dialogues with the government regarding its demands.

A meeting of the Madhesi alliance held in Singha Durbar on Monday formed the talks team a day after the government invited it to sit for talks.

The committee comprises Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) Chairman Upendra Yadav, MPRF-Democratic Senior leader Sharat Singha Bhandari, MFRF-Republican General Secretary Atmaran Sah and Chairman of Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) Sarita Giri, among other Madhesi lawmakers.

Sah, who was present in the meeting, said that the talks team would take up the issues outlined in the concept paper of the BMF. Similarly, the meeting of the Madhesi alliance also formed a six-member secretariat. According to Sah, the meeting concluded that the general strike called by BMF across the Tarai is gaining momentum.

Among the alliance´s demands are guarantee of autonomous Madhes state with the right to self-determination, delineation of federal states based on identity, proportional representation of all groups of people in the state organs and equitable distribution of power and natural resources.

Madhesi lawmakers on April 19 had formed the BMF to get their demands addressed in the new constitution.
