Bhattarai's Resignation Must For Consensus: Nepal
JHAPA, JAUNE 23: Senior leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday said political consensus was not possible until Caretaker Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai stepped down.

"A way out is not possible without political consensus and resignation of Bhattarai is a precondition for consensus" said Nepal while addressing a program at Damak, Jhapa. He urged Bhattarai to step down immediately to pave the way for consensus.

Nepal also termed the announcement of the November 22 elections of the Constituent Assembly (CA) as irrelevant. "The CA election was announced unilaterally and showed Maoists´ greed for power," he added.

In a separate context, he stated that formation of the federal states based on ethnicity was not acceptable to the CPN-UML. Nepal claimed that the dissident leaders in the party, who are pitching for single identity based states, have been convinced on the issue.

Addressing the same program, Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula accused the UCPN (Maoist) of being responsible for the present situation in the country.

"The Maoists are responsible for the dissolution of the CA," said Sitaula. He stated that all political parties should take initiatives for consensus to resolve the current political deadlock.
