Seven Madhesi, Janajati Parties Warn Of Protests |

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: At a time when UCN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) are trying to forge consensus, seven Madhesi and Janajati parties have warned they would take to the streets if their major concerns, including single identity-based federalism and inclusiveness, are not properly addressed.
Organizing a joint press conference in the capital on Wednesday, senior leaders of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF), Rastriya Janamukti Party, National Madhes Socialist Party (NMSP), Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal, Janamukti Party Nepal, Khambuwan Swayatta Rajya Parishad and Nepal Shanti Samaj Party said that consensus forged among big three parties would not be acceptable to them.
"If major three parties dare to underestimate the issues of identity, secularity, inclusiveness, among others, we will take to the streets for massive movement," said MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav while addressing the press conference.
When asked about the date of their possible agitation, Yadav said they would not wait for an infinite time to launch a movement. "Our agitation program will be peaceful and non-violent," he added.
Seven parties, which have been working out to form an alliance, have stated that a draft of new constitution should be prepared and taken to the peoples before holding fresh election for parliament or Constituent Assembly (CA).
"A neutral elected government should be formed in order to announce a fresh election and new constitution should be promulgated through parliament or CA," reads the joint press statement released by seven parties.
Addressing the press conference, NMSP Chairman Sharat Singh Bhandari stated that the president should not remove constitutional difficulties by acting on recommendation made by only three major political parties.
"Consensus should be forged between all political parties to end the current political stalemate," Bhandari added.
Chairman of Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal, Parshuram Tamang reiterated te stance on formation of federal states based on single identity. "We want a constitution that guarantees federalism and federalism with single identity," he said.
Responding to questions raised by media persons, Tamang stated that they will form an alliance very soon. |
