Man Kills Wife Mistaking For Monkey
  RUKUM, Sept 23: A man fatally shot his wife on Saturday after mistaking her for a monkey coming to destroy his maize crop. Dev Prasad Pun, 63, of Rukumkot VDC-5 in the eastern part of the district shot his wife, Basanti, in the maize field nearby their house.

Pun, a famed hunter in his locality, rarely missed his target.

“I did not realize that my wife was coming through the maize filed. I heard a rustle in the field and thought it might be a monkey destroying the crops,” Police inspector of the District Police Office Shiva Raj Budhathoki quoted Pun as saying in his statement. “Monkeys used to create nuisance destroying the crops, so I fired to chase the monkey away but shot my own wife," rued Pun.

The police arrested Pun with the gun that he used in shooting his wife.

In a similar incident last month, Gupta Bahadur Pulami, 55, of Siddhara VDC-8 in Arghakhanchi district, had shot dead his 12-year-old son, Chitra Bahadur, after mistaking him for a monkey.
