Country Heading Into Dark Tunnel: Nembang |

ILAM, Sept 25: UML leader Subas Nembang on Tuesday said the country is heading into a “dark tunnel” as there no elected representatives in the country currently.
Addressing party cadres in CPN-UML in his home district, Nembang said the constitutional bodies are soon going to be left without chiefs of. He also urged the parties to avoid such an unpleasant situation. Nembang said the terms of election commissioners is expiring in mid-October, while the chief justice is retiring in mid-December. "The country is heading into a dark tunnel. The parties must work together to avoid it," he said.
Nembang said there must be consensus between the parties or else there will be a constitutional vacuum in the country. "This is a caretaker government. This cannot take a unilateral decision to hold election or introduce ordinances," he said.
Nembang also argued that since all ordinances must be approved by parliament within a month, the president is not in the position to endorse ordinances.
Nembang also urged the parties to invite confrontation. "There is no alternative to forging consensus," he said. "Fresh CA election is also not possible without amendment to the interim constitution and this requires consensus between the parties.” |
