No Alternative For Prez To Take Power: Mahat
ITHARI, Oct 2: There are growing differences between ruling and opposition parties over the role of President Ram Baran Yadav to end the deepening political crisis, with a top opposition leader saying that the president should not delays in taking necessary action.

Speaking to reporters in Itahari on Tuesday, Ram Sharan Mahat of the Nepali Congress said president´s pressure on parties to reach early consensus was not enough and there was no alternative for him but to wrest power.

"The president must take steps if the political parties do not reach consensus by mid-October deadline,” said Mahat. “The president should not delay in taking steps at a time when the country does not have a parliament or a fully functional government.”

The ruling parties including UCPN (Maoist) along with Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai have been critical of suggestions that Yadav should be active. They argue that Yadav´s role is ceremonial and he has no authority to go beyond that
