102 Kamalaries Yet To Be Freed |

KANCHANPUR, Oct 6: Some 102 Kamalaries are yet to be freed even if four years have elapsed of the declaration of the emancipation of the Kamalaris (bonded girl child labourers).
According to a survey of the Freed Kamalaries Development Forum Kanchanpur, 938 of the 1,040 kamalaris in Kanchanpur district have been freed in four-year period and 102 are yet to be freed.
As the Thuru community does not have awareness, children are sent to work as Kamalaries at Rs. 50 – Rs. 2,000 per month, said co-Manager of the organization, Deshraj Rana.
Girls aged 7- 16 work as kamalaries in risky domestic works. They are taken on condition of sending to school or without such promise, he said.
The largest number or 70 are of working in Jhalari of the district.
