Khanal Rules Out Consensus Govt Under Maoist Leadership |
| |
JHAPA, Oct 8: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said on Monday there is no possibility of forming a national consensus government under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist).
“A consensus government could be formed under the leadership of any other party, except for the Maoist party,” the UML chief said while speaking to the media at Chandragadi airport on the way to his home district Ilam.
To keep the country’s economy from deteriorating, a consensus government should be formed before mid-October, Khanal said, adding that his party had once urged Nepali Congress to lead the government.
He also accused the current Maoist-led government of being the most anti-nationalist and unsuccessful government till date. “Now the only solution is elections to Constituent Assembly but the government seems turning deaf ear,” he added.
Khanal has arrived in the district to take stock of the situation following a landslide a few days ago at Harkate along the Mechi Highway.
