Police Baton Charge Agitators At Patan Hospital |

KATHMANDU, Nov 8 : Several MBBS students of Patan Hospital have sustained injuries when police baton charged agitating students and employees who were trying to padlock the office of Vice Chancellor of Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Thursday morning.
Tension ran high after the hospital administration called the police to prevent the agitators from padlocking the VC´s office. One MBBS student has been seriously injured after the police resorted to baton charge, Dr Srijana Shrestha, head of the department of Child Health Division and a member of struggle committee, informed.
“We were staging peaceful protests but things turned nasty after the police intervened,” she said. The students and employees of the hospital have been protesting appointment of VC and Rector at PAHS.
They have been demanding resignation of VC Sangita Bhandari and Rector Soumya Bhattacharya for the past one month. Doctors and health workers had been halting outdoor patient service for one hour for the last one week.
Dr Bhattacharya was former head of the department of anatomy, while Dr Bhandari former head of the department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS). |
