It has been almost seven decades since planned development began in Nepal. To date, Nepal has implemented 15 periodic plans, and the draft of the 16th Plan is currently in the final stages of preparation. This five-year plan is set to commence from the next fiscal year.

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Purna Bahadur Khadka met with the officials of the National Planning Commission (NPC) on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming 16th Periodic Plan.

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Despite the pressing global challenge of climate change and its severe implications for Nepal, the recently released concept paper of the 16th Periodic Plan by the Nepali government has omitted any mention of climate change. This glaring omission has raised concerns among experts and officials who consider it both unnatural and unexpected, given Nepal's vulnerability to climate-related disasters.

Kathmandu, Aug 17: The 16th Periodic Plan of the government will have a separate chapter to deal with issues concerning the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The National Planning Commission (NPC), which is responsible for preparing the periodic plan, informed this during a meeting of the Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee of the National Assembly on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, August 2: The Approach Paper of the 16th Five-year Periodic Plan (2024/25- 2028/29) has been approved.
