KATHMANDU, April 27: The recent data from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLMCPA) indicate that the poorest families in Nepal are in Bajura, while the richest reside in Mustang. This analysis is part of the poor identification program, which has been completed in 77 districts, with data analyzed in 64 of them.

In most of the countries in the world poverty is understood as income poverty. When people lack money, they are mostly regarded as poor. If poverty is studied in broad terms and reasons of poverty are sought it has various dimensions leaning behind. Some of the important factors of poverty are suffering from malnutrition, poor health condition, lack of quality education, poor access and availability of clean drinking water, lack of electricity etc. These all factors clearly reflect that poverty isn’t only income poverty, but it is multidimensional affecting various factors of life.

When I think about (poverty, money and love), to my mind I can sense out that all of three are interrelated to each others. Before I’d like to write something about these issues, I remember a powerful quote by Bill Gates, “If you are born poor, it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor, it’s your mistake". Time and again I don’t know why, this quote is hit in my mind like a fire in a positive way rather than not in negative way. However, according to the World Economic Forum, it is painful to say that 263 million people could face extreme poverty in 2022 across the world. Let us do meaningful work in this regard so that poverty can be eradicated to some extent.

KATHMANDU, August 18: Nepal was successful in reducing significantly poverty headcount from 30.1 percent in 2014 to 17.4 percent in 2019.

The settlement has got the name as most of people have the occupation of cutting grass and selling it for livelihood which is their traditional occupation. ‘Ghas’ means grass and’ Ghasiyaran’ refers to a person who cuts, collects and sells grass.

Poverty is the problem worldwide and Nepal is no exception. Ending “poverty in all its forms everywhere” is one of the main agendas of 17 Sustainable Development Goals unveiled by the UN in 2016.

It is an important opportunity for Nepal to showcase and reflect on its progress and learn from the experiences of other SUN countries in bringing down malnutrition.

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: Billions of rupees have been spent in the last six decades in the name of the poor and various training. However, nearly one-fifth of Nepal’s population lives below the poverty line (those earning less than $1.90 per day, as per the World Bank).

NEW YORK – Over the past 25 years, nearly 1.2 billion people around the world have been lifted out of poverty, while both malnutrition and the risk of death from air pollution have decreased. Taken together, these achievements are nothing short of a miracle. But two global trends now threaten to slow the momentum in reducing poverty.
