For an audience, theaters and the movie industry might seem like highly competitive fields. But for actors, it is their job to make their audience believe, be it from a stage or through a screen. While the Nepali movie industry has been here for long, theater culture only recently set its foot. My City’s Ashma Aryal caught up with two Nepali actors, who’ve acted in movies and theaters alike, to talk about their journey in the entertainment industry.

KATHMANDU, May 26: Born in 1955, Feisal Alkazi grew up in a flat in Mumbai which had theater in the roof of its building. Born to a father who later became the director of National School of Drama, Feisal as a child was automatically exposed to the world of theater. It was after completion of his school that he decided to form Ruchika Theater Group with his friends, through which he has been continuing his father’s legacy for the past 45 years.

KATHMANDU, July 24: Nepali play ‘Malini’ has been staged at ‘Indo Nepal International Theater Festival’ in Haryana, India, making it the first Nepali play to be performed at the festival. The drama is the Nepali adaptation of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s play ‘Malini.’

Mandala Theater at Anamnagar is staging ‘Manchinte Firante’ from July 22 to August 6. Based on the famous children’s book by author Leo Lionni, the Nepali adaptation is done by poet Viplop Pratik and Mandala’s Somnath Khanal.
