KATHMANDU, May 16: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that discussions are ongoing among the political parties to resolve the parliamentary deadlock.

Speaking to the media following the adjournment of the House of Representatives meeting scheduled for 11 AM on Thursday, Oli said that the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has agreed to let Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane address today's parliamentary session.

“Efforts are underway to ensure the smooth functioning of parliament. The NC will allow the home minister to speak. Why should parliamentarians not be allowed to speak in parliament?” Oli asked.

NC has been demanding the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate Home Minister Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, for his alleged involvement in misappropriation of cooperatives funds. Conversely, Lamichhane has been insisting on his right to address parliament.

According to NC sources, the NC has strategized to unblock parliament by first permitting the Home Minister to speak, after which they will present their demands for the committee's formation.
