KATHMANDU, May 8: Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal (FWEAN) in collaboration with Godawari Municipality has successfully concluded a comprehensive sanitary napkin production training on Tuesday.

The five-day training held from May 3 at Surakchit Aawash Griha established by Godawari Municipality aimed to empower women in the community by providing them with essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene, eco-friendly sanitary napkin production, packaging, costing and pricing.

The training, which saw the participation of 21 women, was organized under the Urban Resilience project supported by Alliance 2015 (People in Need, Helvetas Nepal and WHH Nepal). FWEAN and OM Nepal supported the purchase of the sanitary napkin production machine, while Godawari Municipality managed the training and procurement of raw materials.

Experienced trainers from FWEAN Lalitpur district chapter led the training, covering various aspects of sanitary napkin production, including menstrual hygiene importance, manufacturing techniques, quality control and business management. The participants also received guidance on eco-friendly menstrual hygiene practices.

In a formal closing program held on Tuesday in Godawari, Shova Gyawali, president of FWEAN, emphasized the importance of women entrepreneurship and empowerment, highlighting the need for local government support to ensure sustainability. Muna Adhikari, deputy mayor of Godawari Municipality, expressed her commitment to women's betterment and economic empowerment, pledging to consume and even export the locally produced sanitary pads.

FWEAN President Gyawali stated, "FWEAN has always been dedicated to women's entrepreneurship, linking our district chapters with local governments for business sustainability." She encouraged the consumption of locally made products to boost the confidence of women entrepreneurs and contribute to the business growth.

Deputy Mayor Adhikari affirmed her dedication to supporting women's economic endeavors, promising to purchase more machines for sanitary napkin production in the upcoming fiscal year. She stressed the importance of utilizing the skills learned for personal growth and community development.

The Alliance 2015 Urban Resilience Project, a collaborative effort focusing on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable development, has played a pivotal role in empowering urban communities in Nepal.
