SARLAHI, Sept 3: The Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN-Maoist has demanded proper investigation into the land scam involving Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and stern action against the people involved in the embezzlement of millions of rupees.
According to the leaders of the party, the state has incurred a huge financial loss in the land procurement deal of NOC. By organizing a press meet at Jutpani of Sarlahi on Sunday, the Chand-led party urged the authorities concerned to scrutinize the land deals of the state-owned petroleum monopoly.
Sandesh Paudel, the party's in-charge of Janakpur Bureau, accused the NOC of embezzling Rs 210 million while purchasing land in Lalbandi Municipality-1 of Sarlahi for building an oil storage depot. “Our party conducted a small investigation into the whole controversy and found that the state had to bear a great financial loss due to NOC's land scam,” Paudel said. Not just that, the party has claimed the involvement of political leaders, contractors and officials of Land Revenue Office in the embezzlement.
The party has warned of taking to streets if the authorities concerned do not take action against the culprits in few days. As mentioned in the land procurement documents, NOC had bought a total of 49 plots for Rs. 9, 62000 per plot. However, the land brokers claim that they have received not more than Rs 2, 74000 per plot.
A few days ago, a parliamentary committee had inspected the land and had also interacted with the stakeholders.
