Getting fall-ready

With the arrival of fall, the temperature drops and the air gets dry and this wrecks havoc on our skin, occasionally leading to cracked skin too which can be really painful. “Cracked skin is something we all strongly want to avoid. Since our skin is exposed and hence sensitive, strong winds of fall cause much damage to it,” says Onisha Mulmi, beautician at Galz Beauty Parlor, stating that our skin demands additional attention during autumn.

“It is hard for our delicate skin to adapt to variations in the environment. This is why as the weather changes, your skin care routine should also be updated,” she explains adding that though the daily skin care routine should remain the same, the amount of products used should definitely be altered.

Mulmi suggests you wash your face with clear water in the morning and apply moisturizer all over your face and hands. “Those with dry skin are more prone to skin breakage and wrinkles whereas those with oily skin can get pimples due to use of moist-creams,” she says. Thus she suggests people with dry skin to apply more cream than what they normally use. Similarly, those with oily skin should use gel based creams to control excessive amount of oil production on their face while moisturizing their skin. “Not using moisturizer in case of oily skin is a big no-no. Just choose light moisturizers instead of heavy cream based ones,” she says.

Mulmi also says that our skin heals while we are sleeping so you must pay special attention to your night care routine. “70% of the healing process occurs when you are sleeping so make sure you wash your face before you go to bed and let your skin breathe,” she says. Mulmi suggests using a facewash made from neem and cucumber for oily skin and a facewash that has honey for dry skin. “After washing your face thoroughly, simply apply your regular night cream making sure you really put it on well and use a little extra too,” she says adding that besides the regular things there are some easy things you can do to make sure your skin remains beautiful and healthy despite the seasonal changes. Here she guides you through some basic things she thinks you should do everyday for good skin.

Stay hydrated

It is extremely important to stay hydrated. This goes a long way in preventing a lot of skin problems. If you have enough water in your system, this prevents your skin from slacking and slows age-related changes as well. Have eight to 10 glasses of water every single day to make sure your body is getting the required amount of H20 and your skin reaps all the benefits.

Effortless cleansing

There are many things in your kitchen that you can use for a glowing skin. Papaya not only cleanses your skin but brings out a glow in it as well. Milk and yogurt locks in the natural moisture of your skin. For this, take a ripe papaya and grind it to make a thick solution. To this add a small portion of milk or yogurt and mix it all properly. Freeze the solution to prepare ice cubes. Take one ice cube every day and gently rub it all over your face for a few minutes in circular motions.

Protect your lips

Keep moisturizing your lips to prevent it from getting chapped. You can simply apply natural oil or aloe vera gel on your lips. Carrot and pomegranate can also be used. Prepare a paste out of these by grinding them together and use it daily. Also, to keep your lips soft and supple throughout this season try not to lick your lips after apply lip balms. You’ll be amazed by how many people are guilty of this seemingly harmless act that does a lot of damage to delicate lips.

Basic facial remedies

Bananas acts as good cleansing agents.  So take a ripe banana and use a spoon or your hands to make a paste out of it. Simply apply the paste over your skin. Leave it for five minutes and rinse it with clear water.

Then you can also use glycerin and Eno. Simply purchase a small bottle of glycerin and a packet of Eno. Mix one-third portion of Eno with glycerin. With the help of your fingertips, apply it over your face for 20 to 25 seconds and rinse it immediately. Do not rub or overdo it. Instead consider it as a quick facepack. However, those with oily skin can let it be for another 10-15 seconds. Since regular scrubs lack glycerin, it may clean pores but it will leave the skin dry. But this glycerin Eno mix will scrub your skin while not drying it out. But those with sensitive skin should not use this remedy.

As a final step, after the cleaning and scrubbing routine is over, towel-dry your face and apply a teaspoon of honey over your face and neck. Let it dry for five to ten minutes and then add papaya paste over the layer of honey. Wash it off after 10 to 15 minutes. This simple method will protect your skin from the ill effects of humidity.
