JAJARKOT, Oct 24: Locals of Jajarkot have been demanding jobs with leaders of various political parties contesting the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections scheduled for November 26 in return for their votes.

With the elections just around the corner, candidates have started making door-to-door visit seeking votes from the locals.

The locals have taken this opportunity to express their disappointment and put forward their demands.

According to the villagers, unemployment is one of the major reasons for their local unit lagging behind. So, they have been urging the leaders to provide them jobs if they want votes. When asked, most of the leaders told that they have been repeatedly getting requests from the locals to solve the problem of unemployment.

Some of the locals have strictly told the leaders that they won't cast votes in the elections if they are not assured of jobs. “We don't care which party wins and which looses, all we are concerned is about our jobs and future,” said Sapana Sharma of Bheri Municipality-11. According to her, unemployment is the root of all problems and those leaders who are determined to solve the problems will be chosen by the people.  

Nepali Congress (NC) candidate for the parliamentary elections Rajiv Bikarm Shah has earned a reputation of a social worker. These days, he is busy wooing voters of Kudu and Jagatipur. During his visit to the locals, he constantly hears the lamentation of jobless people who keep requesting him for jobs.

“Political parties change, governments change but what still remains the same is our misery. So, this time we will be voting only to those who are concerned about the people and their grief,” said Keshav Acharya, a local of Jagatipur. 

Despite so much of political change in the country Acharya says nothing has changed for the poor people as they are still struggling for their survival.

 After hearing the grievances of the locals, poll candidates have vowed to bring plenty of job opportunities for them. However, this is not the first time they have made such pledges. Some of the locals have even requested the leaders to at least give them the job of temporary police right now. This, to some extent, has made the leaders realize how much of a big problem unemployment is in the rural areas.

Civil Society leader Rajendra Bikram Shah says if the issues raised by the locals are taken into consideration by the parties and leaders, poverty can be uprooted from the society in the near future.
