Kashthamandap reconstruction begins

KATHMANDU, May 14: The reconstruction works of quake-hit Kashthamandap began on Monday. 

The temple built during the 7th century was completely damaged in the 'Gorkha Earthquake, 2015'. 

Chairman of Kashthamandap Reconstruction Committee and Province Assembly Member Rajesh Shakya marked the beginning of the reconstruction by offering Kshyamapooja. After an excavation from Durham University carried out some years ago, the historians said that the temple was built in the 7th century. 

According to Shakya, the materials required for reconstruction would be prepared in four months on and the physical works would be commenced then. The entire works of reconstruction is expected to complete within four years. 

During the event organized on the occasion Kshyamapooja, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari said that country's tourism would develop only if heritages were reconstructed and preserved. 

"Not only Kashthamandap, all other historical heritages should be reconstructed sooner than later. We are ready to extend support from the ministry for this," Minister Adhikari added. 

Likewise, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya made his pledge for all sorts of supports from his side and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the reconstruction of Kashthamandap. 

Also speaking at the programme, Bangmaya Satabdi Purush (Literary Centenary Personality) Satya Mohan Joshi said that the historical heritages should be rebuilt in their original styles. RSS
