PAANCHTHAR, Nov 27: With a significant number of female election officers and security personnel, the polling center at Sumnima Chowk of Phidim-3 was considered an exemplary polling center of the district until the political parties played the spoilsport.
PAANCHTHAR, Nov 23: Kabita Nembang, a temporary resident of Kathmandu, recently visited her hometown based in Falgunanda Rural Municipality of Paanchthar district. As usual, her neighbors and relatives didn't forget to ask her the same question that they used to ask in the past.
PANCHTHAR, Nov 8: Even as the upcoming elections are just 18 days away, Deu Maya Nepali, 54, of Panchthar district still does have the slightest idea about it. For her, words about the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections are nothing more than a rumor.
Many political parties might have fielded same old faces for the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections slated for November 26 but voters are noticing major shift in their poll campaigns this time. In the past parties spent millions on lavish mass gatherings and meetings but this time they have rather prioritized door-to-door visits.
PANCHTHAR, Oct 29: As the major political parties prefer to field established leaders for elections rather than take a risk with untried ones, the election battles in Panchthar district are set to be dominated by the same old faces again.
PANCHTHAR, Oct 13: Two months ago landslides wreaked havoc in Falelung Rural Municipality. Four people were swept away by the landslides, of which bodies of two are still missing. Over 100 families were reported to have become homeless. People lost their cattle and crops to the disaster. Locals state that they have never suffered such a disaster.
PANCHTHAR, Sept 14: Yasok, Swabaruma and Ranigau villages are popular for their natural beauty. But they are equally notorious for acute water crisis. Residents of these villages were largely hopeful that the under-construction Tamor Lift Drinking Water Project would relieve them of water scarcity. Though the project was supposed to come into service by December, it has come to a grinding halt because of a controversy over the source of water.
PANCHTHAR, Aug 14: While the country is going through very difficult times due to monsoon-induced calamities, there have also been tales of courage and selflessness in helping the victims of disasters.
PANCHTHAR, June 17: With the second phase of local elections approaching nearer, the leading politicians of Panchthar have very tight schedules these days as they are expected to attend almost all mass gatherings, meetings and other promotional programs conducted by their parties.
