CM Kandel to take vote of confidence on Thursday

SURKHET, April 24: Yam Lal Kandel, who was appointed the Chief Minister of Karnali Province two weeks ago, is going to expand the Cabinet today for the first time. He is going to appoint one minister each from the CPN (Maoist Center) and his party i.e. CPN-UML.

Kandel, who faced a two-week delay in forming the cabinet due to disagreements over the allocation of ministries, will appoint Ransingh Pariyar from the Maoist Center as a minister. However, the UML's nominee for the cabinet has not yet been finalized.

A meeting of the Maoist Parliamentary Party on Wednesday decided to nominate Pariyar for the cabinet position. "It has been decided to appoint him (Ransingh Pariyar) as a minister without portfolio for now," provincial lawmaker Krishna Jisi stated. "Once the remaining names are confirmed, he will be assigned a ministry." Pariyar currently serves as the chief whip of the Maoist Center Parliamentary Party and is a provincial lawmaker representing Humla.

The allocation of ministries was agreed upon between the top leaders of the two parties on Tuesday. The Maoist Center will hold four key ministries in the eight-member cabinet. They will be responsible for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources Development, and Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forestry, and Environment.

Similarly, the UML will take charge of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law. Kandel was appointed Chief Minister on April 11, but the Council of Ministers meeting has been delayed due to the absence of appointed ministers.

The meeting on Wednesday also decided to give a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Yam Lal Kandel. Chief Minister Kandel will take a vote of confidence on Thursday.
