FM Saud pledges to ensure stability of Nepal’s fluid foreign policy

KATHMANDU, July 1: Foreign Minister NP Saud has emphasized the government's efforts to stabilize Nepal's fluid foreign policy and international relations.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union (NPU), Dadeldhura chapter on Saturday, Minister Saud highlighted the commitment to ensuring stability in the country's diplomatic endeavors.

"We are currently focused on stabilizing our foreign policy and international relations, which have been somewhat fluid. In our foreign policy, we uphold the values and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations," Minister Saud stated. "We aim to put these principles into practice and maintain a neutral stance, abstaining from military conflicts or alliances. However, our silence should not be misinterpreted as a lack of opinions or perspectives."

Minister Saud also expressed the government's serious attention to border issues with India, such as Kalapani, Lipulek, and Limpiyadhura. He mentioned that these matters were discussed during the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent visit to India, and there is a positive gesture from the Indian side regarding resolving the border problems.

"Diplomatic channels were utilized to elicit responses from the Indian side regarding Kalapani and other border disputes, which had remained unresolved in the past. This is how progress is made in addressing border issues," he clarified.

Furthermore, Minister Saud assured that the current coalition government is stable and refuted rumors suggesting a potential meeting with UML. He acknowledged the Nepali Congress' concerns about the events of December 25 but emphasized that forming a joint government with UML is currently unlikely.

The minister acknowledged the demands of the opposition and emphasized the government's commitment to addressing them. He specifically mentioned that the construction of a concrete bridge at Parashuram Shirsa in Dadeldhura and Jhulaghat in Baitadi is set to commence within six months.
