KATHMANDU, Oct 8: A recent study carried out in Japan has shown that the coronavirus can survive on human skin for as long as nine hours.

The research was conducted on the skin of dead human bodies by Kyoto Prefectural University as research on living humans was difficult morally and practically. Human skin can be used for skin transplant within 24 hours of death. So, the researchers maintained that the skin of the dead body was suitable for the research work.

The research has also indicated that the coronavirus can remain active on human skin for a longer period than influenza virus that causes common cold or flu. The Influenza Virus can survive on human skin for only two hours.

The research conducted on the coronavirus in the United States of America, before declaring the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), has already shown that the coronavirus can survive for four hours on Copper, 24 hours on paper board and 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel.

The experts and scientists around the globe have also come to a common conclusion that the coronavirus can no longer remain active on hands or skin if it is washed frequently by soap and water or sanitized.
