Police round up Chitwan Medical College chief's assailant

RATNANAGAR (Chitwan), March 3: A youth who had been on the run after attacking Prof Dr Harish Chandra Neupane, Chairperson and Managing Director of the Chitwan Medical College, was arrested on Wednesday. 

Police rounded up Bhim Bahadur Tamang, 24, of Chitwan Municipality – 3, Chitwan's Superintendent of Police, Deepak Shrestha said. 

The attack took place on January 24 at a time when Dr Neupane was inside his vehicle (BA 14 Cha 7564) within the college premises. Tamang managed to break the windshields but the college chief escaped unscathed.

Police have filed a case of an attempted murder against Tamang. The District Court Chitwan on Thursday extended the custody of the accused by five days for necessary legal proceedings, police said. 

Woman found dead 

Meanwhile, a woman was found dead at the banks of the Narayani river along the Bharatpur stretch in Chitwan on Thursday. 

The woman estimated to be of around 35 years in age was found near the Gaureshwor temple near the Narayani riverbank. 

The passersby informed the police after coming across the woman's dead body. Her body has been sent to Bharaptur Hospital for an autopsy. Police are yet to determine the woman's identity. RSS
