KATHMANDU, May 17: The official trade union of civil servants has threatened to launch protests if the government did not immediately move forward with the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) announced by the erstwhile government for civil servants of over fifty years or who have worked for over 20 years.

BIRATNAGAR, April 18: Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lalbabu Pandit has said those government employees seeking voluntary retirement instead joining the adjustment process will be deputed to offices easily accessible from their home.

KATHAMNDU, Feb 14: Contrary to the government's prediction, the voluntary retirement scheme announced by the government for civil servants on the brink of retirement has received a disappointing response so far.

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: In what has been described as the first serious attempt to overhaul the ailing bureaucracy, the government has issued a decree urging public servants on the brink of retirement to seek voluntary departure if they wish not to be integrated in the new federal setup.  In a notice published in Nepal Gazette on January 12, the Ministry of General Administration (MoGA) has asked public servants of above fifty years to decide whether they want to continue the service or retire with a handsome incentive.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The golden handshake scheme for civil servants is likely to exert further pressure on the government treasury if all those qualified for voluntary retirement opt for it, officials at the Ministry of Finance said.
