RAUTAHAT, June 14: Locals are agitated following the death of a person in the collision of a motorbike (JA 2 PA 6452) with a Scorpio having an Indian number plate (BR 39 P 2459) at Khoriyatol, Ishwarpur Municipality-9 on Tuesday. Mahendra Mahato Sudi, a former chairman of Chandra Nagar Rural Municipality, was on board the Scorpio when it hit the motorbike.

The Scorpio which was going to Babarganj had hit the motorcycle, which was headed for Bayalbas, on the Bayalbas-Bhelhi road section on Tuesday.

The deceased is 40 years old Manoj Mahato from Chandra Nagar Rural Municipality-2. After the death of Mahato, the locals and the relatives of the deceased protested by burning tires on the road. The protestors chanted slogans such as ‘arrest the former municipal chairperson and take action’, ‘down with Mahendra Mahato’. Ajay Mahato, a resident of Chandra Nagar Rural Municipality, has alleged that the former chairperson Mahendra Mahato Sudi had caused the incident in a well-planned manner.

Ajay Mahato has alleged that Sudi deliberately hit Manoj’s motorcycle as he and Manoj lived in the same village and had a longstanding personal enmity. He also claims that the locals will continue to protest until action is taken against Sudi.

Daleshwar Jaish, an eyewitness to the accident, has alleged that it was not an accident but a planned murder under the guise of an accident. Eyewitness Jaish has said that a loud noise was heard when the Scorpio changed its direction and approached towards the motorcycle Manoj was riding.

Similarly, another eyewitness Ram Kailash Chaudhary has stated that after the Scorpio hit the rider of the motorcycle resulting in the accident, Sudi got off the vehicle and tried to confront the incident. However, seeing a huge crowd of people, he allegedly fled the scene by getting back into the Scorpio vehicle.

According to the Sarlahi District Police Office, the police recovered the vehicle in which Sudi was said to have been driving. Although the District Police Office, Sarlahi, is saying that action will be taken against the culprits, the victims are still pressing for the arrest of Sudi, who has been absconding after the incident. DSP Dipendra Panjiyar Tharu of the District Police Office Sarlahi said that the situation is still tense.

Even though they have arrested the vehicle and the driver who hit them, the victims have said that the incident has been politicized and that the protest will continue until former rural municipality chairperson Sudi is arrested.

Although the car involved in the collision and its driver were brought under control, the incident has been politicized, and there are allegations that adequate action has not been taken against Sudi. The locals and relatives of the deceased have continued their protest, claiming that justice has not been served.
